Strength Training

When implementing strength training, you are lifting a weight which results in a specific muscle(s) contracting to produce the amount of force necessary to move the weight. When you engage in the repeated lifting of that weight, muscle growth will be promoted through the microscopic tears in muscle tissue and the repair of such.

Consistent and proper strength training will yield lean muscle mass which in turn promotes an increase in metabolism. This increased metabolism will result in more fat burning at a higher rate than regular cardio training such as the treadmill and elliptical. Proper cardio training is important for its value relating to the health of the cardiovascular system. Cardio training will burn calories, but it will not be sustained as is the case with strength training. However, if you are wanting to change your aesthetics significantly and raise your metabolism, pursuing long periods of cardio training is not the answer. The goal is not simply body weight loss but the improvement in body composition and that you increase lean muscle mass while decreasing body fat.

Strength training has many other benefits. It can increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis. It can enhance your quality of life by improving a person’s ability to do daily activities. Strength training can also provide protection of your joints through the strengthening of muscles. An increase in muscle and strength can also promote better balance which may reduce the risk of falls.

As a client, your strength training will include using dumbells, barbells, kettlebells, resistance bands and body weight movements etc.
